Formerly a Smugglers Inn dating back to the 15th century, The Sorrel Horse is the quintessential English country pub with tap drawn cask ales, a thatched roof, tiled floors and an original bar billiards table, nestled in a picturesque rural Suffolk village.
Given
our fantastic location on the Bawdsey Peninsula in glorious
countryside, the pub is especially attractive to walkers, cyclists and
the horse fraternity. Superb walks, open rolling countryside and the
quiet and genteel nature of the area make the village a popular
destination for visitors.
With two bars you've a choice of both a
restaurant or traditional bar feel for your food and drinks. The
restaurant has a large wood burner, with the bar having a lovely open
fire and bar billiards table. If you feel you need to catch up with
emails or the internet then please feel free to use our Wifi connection in either bar.
We
are very dog-friendly (and cat) and are happy for you to bring your
canine chums into the pub. Likewise if you are planning a hack, then
please do use the horse corral behind the pub if you're in need of a
rest from the saddle.
If you have any questions or requests then please call The Sorrel Horse on 01394 411617.
We are recognised by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) as a True Heritage Pub
and will continue to maintain the strong traditions that have served the
pub so well for such a long time.
We are especially proud of our
pub since it was recently purchased as a result of a community led
project with the aim of ensuring the pub's long-term viability for the
local and wider community. The recent pub purchase has been
characterised by the tremendous warmth and support of a very large group
of individuals who all recognised that the future success, longevity
and development of the village and pub were inextricably linked.
